The EX-29 headphones work by keeping the background noises out and your music in the ear cups. By keeping the unwanted sounds out, you can listen to your music at a much lower volume which keeps you from damaging your ear drums. Keeping the music in your ear cups allows you to listen to music in quiet places without bothering people around you. It also prevents sound from bleeding into live microphones when recording.
To get a sense of the sound isolation, start listening to music through your headphones. Then take off your headphones and push the two ear cups together. Even with the headphones just a few inches away you can’t hear anything!
Crystal Clear Sound
Some noise cancellation headphones attempt to block sound by sampling the outside sound and then producing an equal, but opposite sound inside your headphones to actively cancel out the unwanted noise. This form of noise cancellation is called active cancellation and has gotten a great deal of attention due to the complicated technology used. Active noise cancellation is an effective way to block sound, but it tends to produce a hissing, swooshing sound inside the ear cups. Also, this technology requires batteries. If the batteries die, not only does the noise cancellation stop working but on many models the music stops too.

When you listen to the first audio clip, the volume starts out at 0dB, as if you were listening normally to the drums. After about 10 seconds, the sound drops down to 10dB of noise reduction demonstrating the amount of noise blocked by a normal pair of high end studio headphones. Simply putting on the headphones drastically reduces background noise. If you are not listening to any audio through the headphones, you will still be able to hear some background noise. I got these headphones specifically for when I’m on my table saw and I couldn’t be happier with them for that purpose. I sometimes use my table saw for hours at a time. The sound quality isn’t the greatest but is better than I expected them to be. They’re meant to block out outside noise and they do that very well. They’re really comfortable as well. Overall, I’m very happy with them.
I use these headphones for blocking out sound while I work at home. I listen to the free, 30 minute, white noise MP3 which is great. It really blocks out sound. If I turn off the audio, I can hear my wife talking to me but with the audio on, she can be right in front of me and I can’t hear anything she says unless she shouts. It’s actually pretty funny. Great headphones! I use them almost every day. Great service too! I spoke with Lee. I emailed and he called me back within about 5 minutes of sending the email. Fast shipping too. Highly recommended and I’m happy to be used as a reference. Thanks Quiet Headphones guys!
Excellent product. Great customer support with answers to your questions and their white noise mp3 is great. You do need white noise to block out the sound of local tv etc and I tried several white noise mp3s from the web but this is the best at blocking sound and a great reason to buy from quietheadphones not to mention their great warranty.

I accidentally, snagged the cord when I was outside cutting working in the yard and sent them to you for repair. I couldn’t believe how fast you guys fixed them and got them back to me. I’m so happy to have my headphones back, they’re the best I’ve ever used, and I will DEFINITELY recommend you to friends.

I bought these headphones to use while studying in my dorm room and they work great. The sound is much better than the earphones that came with my iPod. Now I pretty much just use these headphones for work and for play. Highly recommended!
I work in a cubical as a web developer. These headphones enable me to actually concentrate on my work and with the included white noise MP3 I can totally block out all the office chatter. I can’t even hear my phone ring – fortunately it lights up so I don’t miss calls. My only complaint, and the reason for my 4 star rating is that I wish the headphones were a little smaller. But this is a very small complaint. They are very comfortable and really block sound. The customer service from QuietHeadphones.com is really great. Don’t have any reservations, buy these headphones! You won’t regret it.

When my old headphones fell apart, I did plenty of online research to choose a replacement pair, with noise reduction, comfort, and price at the top of my list. I contacted Quietheadphones and received a prompt, courteous response that answered all of my questions. My EX-29s have met or exceeded all promises and expectations: the noise reduction is superior, the fidelity is excellent, they are extremely comfortable for long periods of wear, even over eyeglasses, and the price is reasonable. Of equal importance, the customer service here is among the very best I’ve encountered in more than fifteen years of online shopping. I highly recommend both the product and the seller.
I live in a noisy house, with a 2 year old nephew. As if that wasn’t enough reason to buy noise isolating headphones, I am something of an audiophile and listen to music all day long. I wear them anywhere from 4-8+ hours a day, and being able to block out alot of background noise for eased listening is very key. You know you love these headphones when you have seriously contemplated wearing them while grocery shopping. Great headphones.
Like much of the world, I spend my days in a tiny cubicle in the midst of a cubicle farm. Some of my neighbors enjoy talking, rather loudly about non-work related matters.
Rather than try to shush them, I decided that I would find a decent pair of headphones that could block voices.
I received my Direct Sound EX-29 headphones the other day, and they are pretty much exactly as described. Alone they cut down on 50% or more of the “voice” noise, and combined with a free “white noise” MP3, which I found online, they block out 90% of the useless banter from the neighboring cubicles. I can still hear the voices but now I can’t understand what they are saying. It’s more like a dull murmur in the background – which I can live with.
I’d love to get to 100% noise reduction but hey…. Frankly, the headset is worth the money to me.
You know what’s cool? I can’t even hear my keyboard when I’m typing this.
Very nice cancelling rates and sound pretty clear. But unfortunately very cheap plastic is being used, so mine snapped on the 2nd recording. Very unpleasant experience.
Looks like cheap plastic works for customer loyalty, and having those will turn you into an addict making you buy more and more parts.

They are ok for watching TV or playing video games at low volume. The quality is good. But it’s not a headphone for professional studio use though.
